Now I know

I work with people that are very passionate about protecting the environment. That is wonderful. I'm all for protecting the environment. I just didn't know much about the subject. I always pride myself on the fact that I drink lots of water. On a top ten list of adjectives that describe me, one of them should be "hydrated". Little did I know that a plastic water bottle to an environmentalist is like waving a dead cow in front of a vegetarian. I quickly learned that plastic bottles leech plastic into the water which you then drink. (All I could think of when she said the word leech were those disgusting things that suck your blood.) And obviously since it's plastic, it doesn't decompose like a normal...thing that decomposes. Anyway, I appreciated being enlightened. I now have a $4 aluminum water bottle that I can use over and over without drinking plastic. But at least I would always put my plastic bottles in the recycling...

  1. I don't use the disposable plastic bottles, but my re-usable one is plastic and not aluminum... is it still leeching?!

  2. Portland tip: To look like a true tree-hugger local don't drink from a plastic water bottle, drink from a mason jar! ...be careful not to spill on your ti-dye shirt or dreadlocks.

Personally, my favorite (and current) water bottle is a CamelBak Eddy Water Bottle. Apparently it's BPA-free... whatever that is.
