Berries

One of the many advantages of living in the Portland area is the berries. Blackberries grow like weeds. Literally. They're actually quite the pest. Yet so delicious. Except when you get a sour one and your face convulses.

Part of who I am has always been and always will be...blueberry picking. As a small child, with the Seymours, our mothers always kindly dragged us along to eat a bunch of free berries...I MEAN, pick a bunch of blueberries. This small berry of joy is like gold. Good grief, they're so expensive in the store! I am happy to share that Mom picked 25 lbs of blueberries today. For $30. And of course she went with Linda. Thank you bargain angel!

Yep, Mom picked all of those. And I passed the whole afternoon eating blueberries...and the banana bread I made yesterday. I heart fruit. And wonderful things made with them. I've always been of the school of mind that a WONDERFUL Christmas gift is a fruit basket. Oh and PS all my life the blueberry picking container has been the plastic one pictured above. Love it.

(25 lbs for $30?!? They are NOT that cheap here. And not that big.)

  2. Awe yes, berry picking... the common theme for every berry picking adventure for me was how Kyle and I seemingly had an inexhaustible supply of complaints and whinings. Kudos to mom and Linda for bringing us anyway.

And you know the kicker? In all those times berry picking NEVER ONCE did I eat a single blueberry! But of course I have always LOVED mom's blueberry cobbler--that alone made the berry picking worth it, handsdown.
