After 14 hours of flying I safely arrived in Chile. I cannot believe I am not only in a different country, but on a different continent!! On the flight from Dallas to Santiago I actually ended up sitting next to a girl in the same program as me. What a tender mercy for sure because we had great conversation and it made me feel not so alone. Hmmmm, some things I have noticed so far:
-There are so many dogs wandering around! I can't imagine there's any sort of humane society.
-There is no central heating, even in the airport. It's probably about 45 degrees (Fahrenheit of course, that's another thing getting used to Celsius) which isn't too bad. But when night comes and it's 30 degrees inside the house...let's just say I'm not used to that. I feel like a Californian in Alaska. OK, and this is no joke. Here's what I wore to bed last night: a winter hat, a shirt and thick sweater, a scarf, leggings, sweat pants, a pair of fleece socks and another pair of regular socks. I was nice and cozy under my 2 comforters, 2 blankets and a sheet :)
-Chileans are CRAZY insane drivers. The drive from the airport to the school was fine because I was asleep. But I have been in a car with my host dad about a total of 45 minutes and I feared for my life. And it's NOT just him! Everyone was like that.
PS My host family is SUPER nice.
