Exploring Valparaíso with Holli, we discovered this beautiful cathedral. The priest gave us a personal tour that lasted about 45 minutes. It was absolutely incredible.

After taking this picture the priest asked if I could read in Spanish. "Yes..." (I didn't know why he was asking.) There was a pulpit next to this one with a Bible on it. He told me to read a few verses. So there I was in a beautiful cathedral, reading the Bible in Spanish outloud as it echoed back to me because the acoustics were so amazing.

This is the priest that gave us the tour. His name is Juan. He was so proud to show us that this is where he sits during mass to help the "Padre" with what he needs.

As if our tour wasn't cool enough already...Juan took us below the church to see the crypt where various bishops and rich people are buried (well, not
buried...they're in the walls).

You can see where this is situated in the crypt in the above picture. Under this cloth is a goblet-like thing with a lid. Inside of it (or so Juan told us) is the heart of Diego Portales, the man who founded Santiago and had to do with organizing the first government here. Apparently his body is somewhere else, but his heart is in under that cloth in the urn-type goblet thing. Very...peculiar.
